Troll and Toad's Boardgame holy grails

Any thoughts on the veracity of this list? I am also curious how realistic some of the values are that are represented. They tend to leave prices whether they have items in stock or not. I am guessing their prices can be quite a bit higher than most optimistic market values, so this question comes with this notation.

I'm sure there are a few people that are more familiar with games on the list than me but I'll chime in with some hearsay. There was a copy of the Blade Runner game up for sale on Ebay before Christmas. It was mentioned that only 100 copies were made and that one sold for about $1000 at Gencon.

I seem to remember the one before Christmas selling for about $240? and someone mentioning the one before that sold for half that much.

Its probably a similar situation to D&D rares - a crap shoot on price.

I only see three items that I would call hard to get, and only one of those would be a grail item.

The Titan, General #1, and WOTR are all a challenge, but General #1 is by far the hardest item on that list to get. WOTR can be had, but expensively (Aaron has two). Titan seems to come up once a year, and for a lot cheaper than $700. If it had the expansion set, then, yes, it's worth the $700. The General is the real gem there.

It is a bit of a strange list: more like "expensive stuff we've had in stock at some point we'll list here for high profile" rather than a true "crème de la crème"; whatever that might consist of.
*nods* Gorgonstar Titan for one is unlikely to slip through the net, but really needs those expansions to bump it up.

Had thought you might choose Jati over the FGU WOTR, Kynan, although the former looks dead-boring. Laughing
aside: I'm still slightly skeptical with regards the actual impact of "As the game was not properly licenced, it was quickly pulled from distribution and is, as a result, quite rare" on WOTR (same text as on BGG). T&T's website doesn't say whether they're selling the bagged or boxed version, but a two year difference (1976/1978) and the number of copies logged on BGG hardly indicates "quickly pulled from distribution".
But then, TSR's Warriors of Mars has a similar reputation, I guess. Wink

Just a random note about T&T...

When they don't have a rare item in stock they list a price much lower than when it is in stock. Then if the item sells at whatever high amount the number goes down again until they get another copy for sale. I'm unsure what the reasoning is with that huh

I have never had any problems doing business with them on the few occasions I have purchased from them.

My experience has been mixed. I ordered a semi-rare item from them, but when I got it it was incomplete. Their description said nothing about the missing pages. That said, I think their customer service is excellent, for they issued a full refund at the return of the item.

The prices they ask for seem a bit high to me. If there are people out there who would pay $4-$5K for a rare module, I have many of that caliber that are available. Very Happy

Prices are very high Wink

I have had 0 problems with them though when I bought anything from them. Lots of low level dealer types flame them and I think it's more out of envy than anything else I have seen or heard about.

Ah I was wondering about this... looking at it myself it would seem to the average punter that when they get it in stock they will be selling it at this price and I would be rushing to sign up for their emails so I could get it at this fantastic price... then when I get the email saying its in and at a huge price I wouldn't be so happy, but the possability is there that I may buy it.. if they listed the outragous prices up front how many people would there be signing up???...

Brette:)

Nice condition Dark Towers that are complete and work generally sell for $150-ish, so $220 is high IMO (unless the market has risen in the past two years or so?).

I paid $165 for my Blade Runner. Historically, the Troll & Toad pricing is nowhere near in line with the going rate. They mentioned, at one point, that they were reassessing their pricing methodologies, but even so, I wouldn't be looking for a great deal there.

T&T are very high indeed.

I guess they must have a fair amount of space to keep things.
