Scribe's Musings: This issue contains the last of a few Chess columns by Gary Gygax. It is uncertain why the interest diminishes. There is also a spoof article on the back which is viewable in the scan. The author is Gary Gygax to be sure. Seems like a political statement of sorts in the hobby, but I cannot be sure.

Fort Zinderneuf is a running joke through the IW, written by a variety of different authors from month to month, viewing through a distorted lens internal and external club politics, parodying games, and so on. This particular article parodies Tom Shaw (Pshaw), VP of Avalon Hill, and the idea that one must adhere strictly to the printed rules when playing AH games. Given the more DIY ethic of the IFW, which celebrates game variants, this idea strikes Gygax as a bit absurd.

Oh, and by the by, the "mimeo section" was what they called the IW Supplement shortly after the IW went to offset printing (at which point club business and so on was promptly deemed unworthy of the expense of offset, and thus relegated to a continuing mimeograph section).
