They feature the characters from the cartoon, that's right.
In France there are several comics that were edited under the name 'Dungeons & Dragons, le Sourire du Dragon'.
6 different comics I think. This sticker is derivated from these books I think.
This is a sticky card you have to collect and stick in an album. (I don't now if in the US you can stick your base ball cards on specific albums).
If it was edited in Italy, this sticker was definitely made from the french market (it is written in french). The kids buy the album and the boosters at the store.
Italy is the homeland of the biggest industry of these in Europe (Panini).

Yes, a specific album.
Each collection has got an album.
For the soccer, you have 2 pages for each team. And on this pages you have got specific areas to stick each sticker.
When you have collected all the sticker, your album is completed (and you can't remove them).
So an album exist, it seems it was edited in the year 1987.
I have just PM you a link if you want to buy one (it was difficult to find it !).
Post it there if you are not interested, maybe for some one else.
