This is one I've actually went to the yahoo group months back and had a talk with those knowledgeable people (not to mention some help from those in other circles)
Empire of the Petal Throne (I don't know if any text changes or maps etc, but I doubt they do since there is no update as to copyright and date in the books for all 3 printings)
1st (7?/75): Pg 114 has component list along with some items released by TSR (SR, etc), facing page (inside back cover) is blank / Simplistic backer sheet that wasn't attached to the bottom of the box (blank otherwise) in any way other then by the shrinkwrap / no product number in top right corner.
2nd (after 7/76 before 3/77): Pg 114 has component list along with some items released by TSR (same as 1st), facing page (inside back cover) has product list / Backer sheet (now with photo of contents and more description) that wasn't attached to the bottom of the box (blank otherwise) in any way other then by the shrinkwrap / no product number in top right corner.
3rd (3/78-8/78): Pg 114 has component list along with some items released by TSR (new to reflect price increase and other items - The Dragon, etc), facing page (inside back cover) has product list (new - matches BLK 5th (3/78), ELD 5th (3/78 ), GDH 4th (5/78), GH 9th (5/78), CM 6th (8/78 ) and Metamorphous Alpha 2nd product lists exactly)
/ Bottom of box is now printed on with the same image/text of the backer sheet found with the 2nd / product number in top right corner.

Thanks! If I'm reading your description right, the 1st one listed here http://tomeoftreasures.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=533 doesn't match description 1 or 2 as the bottom of the box has title & description printed on it. Am I missing it? _________________ "This is cool."

If that is not a sheet of paper attached to the back of the box, then I'd say you have something in between 1st and 2nd. Everything in that 1st one listed matches the 1st print, but the back of the box for the 1st is blank and white, the sheet is loose.
Am curious though if you have something 'new' why TSR printed on a sheet, then the back, then went with a separate sheet again, then printed on the back again?????

I was thinking that the one posted here was a 2nd print. In the first, there is a sheet placed under the box before it is shrinked. When someone opens the shrink they usually put it inside the box.
For a 2nd, there is still no number on box but instead of the sheet, info is printed on the bottom of the box.
For the 3rd, such as the recent auction, there is a number on the box.

The image you see for the first one is the back of the box. The sheet is with the picture is inside the box, and the inside cover of the rulesbook is blank. I hope the other variations will get posted so we can see development. There may be four. _________________ "This is cool."

I will try and post some of the other variations of the early TSR stuff this week. I just took out my copy of this one and it matches the description of the 1st print. It matches p114 and has a thicker/slicker page with the same writeup as the box of the first one posted here. Back of box is blank.
Just so I am clear, the cover sheet mentioned in the first one posted here matches the back of the box posted in the second one here?
Also, the prints we are missing here are a 1st print (that I will post) and one that matches the first one here but has a blank back of box?

Very interesting then..unless my 2nd print info is off with the back of box printed on..my images for the 2nd only show the sheet, not back of box. Bugger! Well guess its something to keep looking into.

When you consider all the different printings of Dungeon! and that there are at least 2 prints of Camelot, 3 of Lankhmar, etc. It is entirely possible that EOTPT could have more prints.

It looks like there are four, then. If there are two that are blank on the bottom of the box, then the ones list here are three and four. _________________ "This is cool."

Well, looking back at the Tekumel group I did find this which I must have missed from one of the guys: "The blurb on the bottom of the box is repeated on a loose sheet within the box, which has a photo of the box contents. A scan of the inside back cover would be quite boring - its a blank page." "Mine was the certainly the first version that I saw in Australia - I bought it as soon as I saw it. I think that would have been early in 1976."
Still searching for more...

okay..so it seems there are 3 boxes known and are confirmed:
no product code - blank bottom - blurb on sheet
no product code - printed with blurb - blurb with picture on sheet
product code - printed with blurb and picture
And 3 books (listed above).
We know of 3 combinations with the 1st print book belonging to 2 of them..so there is still some confirmation needed for at least 1 more combination (i.e. basically what type of box the 2nd print book goes to.)
