The harm is that I paid for each ! But I had never seen this version (green box) before, so I wanted to check. I checked...and will resell/trade one later. Not a big deal anyway.

Hey! I remember that. You bought the Green Box from me, right? An odd little side effect from selling and being so involved with collectors/Acaeum over the years is that I remember almost every single item I sold to another Acaeum member . . . that is, except for Ralf because he has bought so much and Scribe (because I have never managed to figure out what your ebay handle is!!!! )
Anyway, the creator of this item contacted me. This is the info he sent about the history of the Green Box version:
Quote:
Dear beyondthebreach,
Hello. I am the original developer and manufacturer of this item, having built them together with my kids in our garage-based business (Platypus) in 1980. Yes, what you depict is the original set as delivered with all documentation. Close to 1600 were made and that was it. As such I have seen prices pushing $70 to $80 at the toy conventions. BCS bought the rights from me in 1981 and marketed their own red box version through Chaosium, used the tile dies and engravings I commissioned. We never turned a profit as the initial manufacturing costs were so high and I used it as a business model for my kids. I am happy to see these come up on EBAY now and then as it is a piece of history for me and my family. In retrospect I should have put a dozen or so away for 25 years and sold them into today's collecting market. Oh well. Should any questions come up about this product you may refer them to me. Good luck in the auction. Victor Ivashin

You're absolutely right ! That's some memory ! Furthermore, I've never been an Acaeum member, even I've probably dealt at least once with nearly all of them...

That is a very nice message. I hope that when other creative talents see our work here that they will come forward with that kind of info. It reminds us all that there was more to life than TSR. _________________ "This is cool."
